Polop is a municipality of the Valencian Community (Spain) located in the northeast of the province of Alicante, in the Marina Baja region.
Under the Old Regime, Polop was a lordly seigneury of the Crown of Aragon. Barons of Polop, was how those who exercised the ownership of the lordship were known. It was created by Jaime I of Aragon and granted to Doña Berenguela Alfonso of Castile. The feud belonged to the House of Aragon until 1430 and to the Fajardo family until the beginning of the 19th century.
The territory of this barony, nestled in the region of La Marina, extends from the rivers Guadalest and Algar to the end of Villajoyosa, passing by the beaches of Albir and Benidorm.
The most important geological features of the municipality are the mountain range Monte Ponoig and the ravines that flow to the east, Mount Ponoig (1181 m.) is located west of Polop.
Polop is 15 minutes by car from the city of Benidorm and its beautiful white sandy beaches, and 5 minutes from shopping centers, such as La Marina, Carrefour, Media Markt, sports stores, etc., restaurants and stores, bars, and close to theme parks for children and parents such as Terra Mitica - Terra Natura, Mundomar and Aqualandia, golf courses and Alicante airport is 35 minutes away by car
