During the Old Regime, Polop was a seigniory of the Crown of Aragon. Barons of Polop was the name given to those who owned the lordship. It was created by Jaime I of Aragon and granted to Doña Berenguela Alfonso of Castile. The feud belonged to the House of Aragon until 1430 and to the Fajardo family until the beginning of the 19th century.
